Doesn’t Matter if it’s Black or White
It’s definitely been a week of elegance for celebs! From London Fashion Week to the Brit Awards, everyone came prepared in nothing but black & white formal wear. Artists like One Direction, Emeli Sande and Justin Timberlake dazzled the red carpet at the Brit Awards. The 1D boys always come dressed to impress (have you seen their new video for Britain’s Comic Relief yet??) but Justin Timberlake looked quite dapper in his Suit & Tie!
It was nice to see Lana Del Rey grace the red carpet in a comfy, black dress with a geometric collar and quant buttons, adding character to her simple look. Corinne Bailey Rae looked cute as ever in her straight off the runway white dress from the Miu Miu Spring ’13 Collection but can we please talk about Jessie J and Taylor Swift!! Risky, risky fashion choices ladies. Jessie J stunned everyone in a Versace dress with a deep plunging neckline that almost put all J Lo dresses to shame. Taylor Swift wore an Elie Saab dress that made her look like a Greek goddess on the carpet. She later performed in a tame “Like a Virgin” white dress that later was ripped off to revealed a sexier black leather ensemble…cheers to that T Swift.
But my girl Rihanna stole all the headlines the past week with the debut of her fashion collaboration with River Island at London Fashion week and blew up Instagram with photos of her 25th birthday celebration! She kept things classy at her fashion show wearing a little black dress and looked innocent as ever coupled up with Chris Brown in an angelic flowing white dress for her b-day. What can’t this girl do?!
I love all these black & white looks but am leaning more towards the black looks. Are you totally loving or hating everyone’s fashion looks this week? Let us know what you think about the black & white trend! Comment on our facebook page or tweet us using the hashtag #MCFashionFriday.
Until next week-
An Ode to Suspenders
They’re fun; they’re hip, and super stylish…not to mention Rihanna’s rockin’ them on the latest cover of Complex…so you know they’re fly as hell. Suspenders have been a part of fashion tracing all the way back to the 18th century…who would have known! Starting out as an undergarment that was never meant to be visual, they’ve eventually evolved into the latest fashion statement. Whether you wear suspenders to keep your pants up or turn heads, special thanks to Janet Jackson and Fonzworth Bentley for putting them back on the map in the 00’s!
K-Pop fashionistas CL from 2NE1 and Hyuna (featured on the remix of PSY ‘Gangnam Style) make this trend look flawless whether it’s worn with a skirt or shorts. Rihanna chose the avenue of pants with suspenders which works fine too or wear them backwards like Lady Gaga for the ultimate statement - whatever floats your boat! Go for the professional look with a dress shirt, suspenders, bottom of choice and some sexy pumps or be that cool chick with fly kicks, ripped jeans shorts, a vintage tee and some dope suspenders.
Same goes for the fellas. G-Dragon of Big Bang and Pharrell look quite polished sporting vintage Chanel suspenders and One Direction wouldn’t be the same if Louis wasn’t wearing his coveted suspenders. Guys- you can dress this trend up or down too! Suspenders with dress pants, a button up and dress shoes will leave you more than ready for work and suspenders with blue jeans and a white tee (add a fedora or snapback if you’re into hats) will leave you equipped for the weekend…less is more!
All this suspenders talk left you craving a pair of your own? Well then…let me be of some assistance! Vintage Chanel suspenders are extremely hard to get a handle of (Sorry) but that doesn’t mean there aren’t great finds out there. Ladies-We love this studded pair from Free People ($34) or these funky finds from American Apparel ($18)
Guys- check out this polished pair by Geoffrey Beene ($27.50) or go for the classic feel with this pair from Dockers ($14.99). In the end, you can do no wrong with suspenders… thank the fashion Gods because this is a trend that can be worn year-round!
Are you brave enough to rock suspenders? Let us know what you think about this trend! Comment on our facebook page or tweet us using the hashtag #MCFashionFriday.
